Good News Week’s Claire Hooper has written her first book, titled “Love Bites”, about the troubles women face in dating vampire. It’s a great read for anybody in the vampire craze, and we celebrated the book’s release by catching up with Claire. See what she had to say about the book below!

What is it about vampires in pop-culture that makes them so appealing?
A vampire is the perfect leading man. He’s like Mr Darcy on steroids; handsome, mysterious, brooding, with the addition of supernatural powers and uncontrollable desire for you. Sexy.
What was the process like, writing your first book?
It was exhilarating. I had less than two months to write it which was probably a blessing because I didn’t have time to second guess myself. I’d always thought my first book would be some sort of literary masterpiece, but I had to let go of that ridiculous idea and just let myself have as much fun as I could. It feels good to have the first one out of the way. Don’t know yet if there’ll be a second…
As a stand-up comedian who could figuratively die on stage, was it a relief to write a book that could be constantly refined and improved without a heckling crowd?
In theory it would be a relief, but I found there was strangely more pressure. After all, it’s in print, that’s forever. And we stand up comics don’t really have the stamina to use our brains for longer than half an hour at a time, so the writing process was a shock to the system. And you know what? I like having a crowd full of potential hecklers in front of me. You immediately know whether you’re doing a good job or not.
Are vampires a more suitable dating alternative to werewolves?
God no, but at least with a vampire you’re less likely to cover your nice black clothes with fur. A more suitable dating alternative would be a real man with no desire to bite you, but women today don’t want to hear that.
What’s your favourite historical vampire?
Spike from Buffy. I think he qualifies as ‘historical’ given that he was based on 80s rock star Billy Idol. He did it for me. I took the piss out of him in the book though.
